How to Play
We're a group of friends who love D&D, collaborative storytelling, and the thrill of exploring a world that is trying to kill us. You'll like it here.
What You Need
Sign Up
Fill out the Sign-Up Form. This tells us who you are and gets you into the campaign roster and Discord.
Read the Handbook
The full Player's Handbook covers every rule, table, and system in detail. The essentials:
- All characters start at Level 1 (or Level 3 if a prior character reached Level 3+ before dying)
- Point Buy or Standard Array for ability scores — no rolling
- Fixed / average HP — no rolling
- 150 GP flat starting gold, spent at Veil's End shops
- Sources: PHB, DMG, MM, Heroes of Faerûn, Forge of the Artificer, Ravenloft: The Horrors Within, Arcana Unleashed. No homebrew, no UA, no third-party
- Multiclassing allowed with story justification and DM approval
- Death is permanent. Resurrection is not currently available.
Create Your Character
Build your character on D&D Beyond. Set the sheet to Public so a DM can review it. Then complete the Character Creation Form and open a Character Submission ticket in Discord to notify a DM.
The form asks one required question: Why did your character join The Reclaimers? A sentence or two is enough — your story grows through play.
Before you start building, open your D&D Beyond character sheet's Home tab and set Character Preferences exactly as below:
| Homebrew Sources | Off |
| Core Content | On |
| Expanded Rules | On |
| 2014 Core Rules | Off |
| Legacy/Non-Core | Off |
| Enable Partnered Content | Off |
| Milestone Advancement | On |
| Fixed Point Type | On |
| Feats | On |
| Multiclass Requirements | On |
| Show Level Scaled Spells | On |
| Ignore Coin Weight | On |
| Public Character Privacy | On |
Log In & Set Your Availability
Once you're approved, log into the site with the same Discord account you already use for the server. Head to Settings and mark the days and times you're generally free to play — it takes under a minute and helps DMs see when players are generally free, so they can post quests at times more people can actually make.
Sign Up for a Quest
Quests are posted by DMs in the #quest-board channel on Discord. Each post lists the DM, date, rank required, corruption level, quest type, length, and party size.
- Comment to sign up. First come, first served.
- Quests need 3 to 6 players
- You may only have one character signed up for one quest at a time
- Quests stay open until minimum is reached — no expiry
After Every Session
Submit the two post-session forms. The DM announces XP, Veil Marks, and gold in Discord. Update your D&D Beyond sheet to match.
New to D&D?
Welcome. Your character does things, you describe what they do, the DM describes what happens. Sometimes dice determine the outcome. Ask questions. Make mistakes. Have fun. That is the whole game.
But seriously, if the idea of "describing what your character does and letting dice decide the outcome" still feels a little abstract, Critical Role put together an excellent primer, Handbooker Helper. It's a 44-episode series, five minutes each, where the cast breaks down one D&D mechanic at a time, dice, ability scores, spellcasting, all of it, in plain terms.
